Flood alerts issued for Kent
The Environment Agency has warned
of possible floods across much of Kent,
"Flood Watch" alerts have been
issued for most parts of the Medway, between
Tonbridge and Yalding, through to Maidstone, and from
Allington to Cuxton.
The alerts mean flooding of
low-lying land and roads is expected in areas at risk. Those living
or travelling in such areas are warned to "be aware and
In Maidstone, tow paths on both
sides of the river are completely submerged.
No official Flood Warnings, which
advise people to "act now", have yet been issued for the area.
Flood Watches have also been issued
for the River Teise between Lamberhurst and Yalding, and the River
Beult from Pluckley and Bethersden to Yalding.
This risk is likely to increase
over the weekend, with the Met Office having issued
a Severe Weather Warning for the region on Sunday.
