Boy, 10, arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after crash near Swanley

Swanley interchange crash victim Mike Baker with partner Shiela Bright

A 10-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the death of a man on the A20 at the weekend.

Michael Baker, 47, from Littlehampton, West Sussex died after the recovery truck he was in collided with a lorry.

Police believe the lorry had stopped because a group of children were throwing stones at vehicles shortly before the two-car pile-up near the Swanley interchange at 10.40am on Saturday.

Mr Baker was in the truck following an earlier accident at junction four of the M25.

Detectives are appealing for information about the incident, in particular anyone who knows who was at the side of the road that day.

Sevenoaks district commander Ch Insp Adrian Futers said: "This weekend a family have lost a loved one, this is not the time for people to withhold information out of some sort of misguided loyalty."

We drove past some youngsters (not the A20) when one of them threw an apple at our car partly open passengers window the apple hit my wife on her arm bruising her. I telephoned 999 the call-taker at Kent police said "sorry caller this is not an emergency please phone your local police station" I replied "I don,t know the number do you" the line then went dead. I tried to catch the kids myself but they outrun me.

I agree. The assumption should be that those throwing stones DO know the risks and danger they are causing, and therefore should stand trial for murder.

If its proved that this accident was caused by kids throwing stones at vehicles then it should be attempted murder charges for the culprits if caught. Too many cases of objects being thrown at vehicles and even trains have been reported of late. The trouble is the people who do it just don't think what could happen.
