Man impaled on walking frame in freak accident

Fire engine stockFiremen had to free a man impaled on his walking frame in a freak accident.

The 60-year-old's upper left arm was caught in a hook on the frame after he was thought to have fallen on it.

Firefighters had to free him by using cutting gear to break up the wheeled frame.

The incident happened in Shepway, Kennington, at 9.30pm on Thursday.

An Ashford Fire Station spokesman said: "By the time we got there, the ambulance crew was already there.

"He was with his partner at the time and she raised the alarm. It is not clear how this happened but it may have been that he had fallen on the frame.

"The hook on it is used for holding shopping bags."

The victim was taken by ambulance to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford for surgeons to remove the piece of frame from his arm.
