Rush-hour rail delays after lightning strike

Passengers board the bullet train today

Commuters travelling back to Kent from London tonight face delays of up to an hour after a lightning strike.

Southeastern services between St Pancras International and Ashford International as well as Faversham are affected by the signalling problem.

It comes after a lightning strike just outside St Pancras earlier this afternoon.

Some high-speed trains bound for Kent were earlier stuck on red lights before passengers were transfered to another train.

Disruption is also affecting Eurostar services.

Meanwhile, all services between Tunbridge Wells and Hastings are suspended after a freight train derailment near Robertsbridge in East Sussex.

Buses will replace trains and it is likely services will be disrupted for most of the evening.

No passenger trains were involved in the derailment and Network Rail staff are at the scene, working to clear the line.
