A crash involving a police car closed a Chatham road for more than three hours today.

A white Skoda hit the car, which was being driven by a male officer, on Best Street at the junction with Clover Street just before noon.

The policeman and the other driver suffered minor cuts to their hands and were treated at the scene by ambulance staff. Neither had to go to hospital.

There was damage to the front of both cars. The road was re-opened just after 3.10pm.

A Kent Police spokesman said the crash was being investigated.

What also did not help this incident was that the police car was in the wrong lane, maybe not aware that Chatham has gone 2-way now.

The lights on this crossing are not quite right. Often when travelling out of Clover St onto Best, if you cross the lights when they are have gone from Green to Amber, you often notice the cars on Best St have started movingas their lights have also changed slightly too early.

In summary Clover St is a steep hill, therefore once there lights change to Amber/Red the lights on Best St should chance after a few seconds and not straight away.
