This is the first picture of a woman killed on the M2 after
getting out of her car following an accident.
Fashion worker Helen Lucas, of Douglas Road, Maidstone, died
after her Peugeot 207 hit the central reservation.
The 36-year-old was driving on the coastbound carriageway, near
to junction two for Cuxton, at about 7.30pm last Wednesday.
Kent Police said Ms Lucas, pictured left, was standing by
the central reservation when she was hit by a silver Ford
Mondeo.
She was pronounced dead at the scene and the cause of death has
been recorded as multiple injuries.
Ms Lucas was described as a "quiet, unassuming young lady" by a
neighbour.
The woman, who did not want to be named, said: "I'm very shocked
to hear she's died.
"She was nice and always had a smile on her face. It was good to
have a such a lovely neighbour."
An inquest was opened and adjourned on Wednesday and a full
inquest will be held at a later date.
The 22-year-old male Mondeo driver, from Rochester, was taken to
Medway Maritime Hospital with a minor injury and discharged the
same night.
The road was closed for around seven hours while officers from
the Kent Police Serious Collision Unit carried out an
investigation.
Police are appealing for drivers who stopped to help and later
drove away from the scene to get in touch.
Witnesses are asked to phone 01622 798538.
