A family GP was found hanged this week.
Dr Festus Ojagbemi, 49, had worked for 11 years at St Mary’s
Medical Centre in Vicarage Road, Strood.
The experienced doctor was found hanged on Monday in his
detached house in Stalham Court, Kingsdown Close, Hempstead.
An inquest in Maidstone, which opened and adjourned on Thursday,
heard he had been depressed for some time.
Dr Ojagbemi, who trained in Nigeria, joined St Mary’s 11 years
ago after moving to the UK in 1992.
St Mary’s Medical Centre closed throughout Tuesday, Wednesday
and Thursday cancelling scores of appointments. It re-opened this
morning.
A sign on the surgery door said: “Due to the very sad loss of Dr
Ojagbemi passing away the surgery will be closed until Friday,
February 17 at 8.30am.
"We ask for your understanding and patience at this very
difficult time.”
Patients expressed their sadness, with one saying: “He was an
excellent, caring doctor and will be sadly missed.”
