Victoria and David Beckham have been the talk of the town

by Andy Gray

There's been one Beck of a rumour circulating Maidstone this week.

The grapevine positively shook with reports that Britain’s other Royal Family were planning a stay at Leeds Castle this summer.

So hot was the gossip, castle officials were moved to release a statement to reluctantly scotch whispers that David Beckham and his family had booked the historic attraction for three days in July during the Olympics.

The story spread like wildfire from a variety of wildly different sources.

It was said a couple who had booked the castle for a July 7 wedding had been paid a handsome fee to rearrange their big day so David, Victoria and a likely flotilla of VIP guests could have it for themselves.

Nice work if you can get it, but all sadly untrue.

Rumours had it US-based Golden Balls had earmarked the 12th Century castle as the perfect old-English setting for the christening of their only daughter Harper Seven whose first birthday is in July.

Calls to Beckham’s UK agents, 19 Management, went unanswered.

But a Leeds Castle spokesman said: “We are absolutely delighted to hear that the Beckham family are planning to use Leeds Castle for Harper Seven’s christening.

“It would be a perfect location, and if they made a booking, utter discretion would be assured.

“The only trouble is, we haven’t heard anything from them.”
