Police negotiators spent 12 hours talking down a man from Ramsgate cliffs - a week after he threatened to jump from other cliffs.

They were called in the early hours of Saturday by relatives concerned for the safety of the local man, in his 30s.

After a search, they found him standing on the wrong side of railings in the Eastcliff area.

Several police cars attended and Victoria Parade, below the scene, was closed for most of the day as a precaution to passers-by.

Trained police officers eventually managed to persuade the man to climb back over the railings at 9pm.

He was taken to hospital for a mental health assessment, before being remanded in custody for an unrelated incident.

A Kent Police spokesman confirmed it was the same man who had threatened to jump off cliffs at Dumpton Gap the previous weekend.

On that occasion, police also spent several hours talking him down.
