Taxi destroyed by blaze

Fire Engine

A black cab has been destroyed by fire at the top of Blue Bell Hill.

Firefighters battled to save a whole day's takings from the taxi as it was engulfed in a blaze last night.

The driver in his 40s, who was on his way home from London, managed to pull over into the Buckmore Park turning before flames inside the taxi took hold at about 9.30pm.

Fire crews from Medway and Maidstone attended, used water to put out the fire and saved the cabbie's takings - even loose change.

The fire did not affect any other vehicles and no-one was injured. The cause is unknown.
