A mother was escorted by police from a children’s indoor play area after a row broke out over a bottle of water.

Kelly Wheeler refused to leave Adventure Kidz, in Aylesford, when the owner accused her of breaching house rules by consuming food and drink bought outside the premises.

But although the mum admits she took in flavoured drinks for children Frankie, five, and eight-year-old Amy, she says the dispute escalated when proprietor Andrew Moody would not provide her with tap water.

She said: "I needed to make sure my kids are hydrated and I couldn’t buy anything from the cafe as I had spent all of my money on paying for my children to go in."

Adventure Kidz, Unit 2 Euroway Wood Close, Quarry Wood Retail Park, Aylesford,Miss Wheeler paid £6.95 entry for each of her children and water at the venue cost £1.10 a bottle.

She added: "The owner threatened to call the police unless I left so I told him to go ahead.

"I respect the rules and would have held my hands up but I didn’t agree with the way he handled the situation."

However, owner Mr Moody (pictured left) claims the 30-year-old parent ignored signs about bringing in food and the drink and became defensive when he asked her to put away her provisions, forcing him to ask her to leave.

"She refused and I had no choice but to call the police. I would offer any of my customers a free glass of tap water and I would have done on Sunday if she had apologised, but it had gone too far."

Miss Wheeler, of Horsted Avenue, Chatham, said one of the friends she was with had a snack pack for her four-year-old daughter but disputes the group had a hoard of food, as claimed by Mr Moody.

An officer arrived at the indoor play area in Quarry Wood
Retail Park at 3.15pm and escorted the horrified family from the site.

A police spokesman confirmed the incident and said no further action would be taken.

"Who in the right mind will call the police and have a fight in front of children?"

Err, the manager of a childrens play area dealing with an patron not abiding by the rules and refusing to leave, and where does it say there was a fight!?

Whilst I can concede it's possible that the chap was being a little over reactionary, you have to admit that he wouldn't have had anything to complain about had the customer abided by the rules.

And, yes, I'm sure people have done it before and will continue to do it still, but if you're caught taking food in, don't kick up a fuss, just do as the proprietor asks and either put it away or leave!

The fact that the customer chose not to do either only plays in to his hands and he calls the police, which he's more than entitled to do if someone is refusing the vacate the premises when asked to do so!

The only person that should have any shame is the mother for making such a show in front of her children and demonstrating to them that it's ok to break the rules!

it must of been a harrowing experience for you .. i still say this chap handled the situation very badly, and only response he had was to call the law, just shows his inexperience and to be honest he should not be in business dealing with the general public, i bet you wont go there anymore.

Can't see why its a big deal to take your own food in with you, you've paid to get in and thats more than enough and if you decide to buy something from their cafe then fair enough. When I was younger my mum took me to places like this and she did take her own food and drink for us and sometimes she would buy from the cafe. Also people seem to bring in their own food and drink to the cinema and there's no problem with that. Calling the police is just so over the top for a situation like this.

In my defence regarding the negative comments, it was Mr Moody’s intimidating and inappropriate behaviour which prompted me to go to the papers with my story. Mr Moody’s approach was wrong, I had brought the drinks in from my car during the course of our stay to provide the children with drinks as the children were thirsty after running around at the establishment and I had run out of money, Mr Moody brought to my attention his rules and regulations and when I said I would respect the rules he was stipulating but should the children require it, would he provide the children with tap water as I have no more money left, I became defensive to his response which was; “why would I provide tap water there is bottled water in the fridge for sale”. I was in the company of friends, one of which had only just brought herself a coffee from his establishment when he approached us, I challenged him on his service and the manner in which he was representing himself, it was at that point he asked as to leave the premises and said he would involve the police, he then subsequently grabbed my handbag from the chair, I then refused to leave and opted to remain put until the police arrived as I was disgusted and outraged by his behaviour in the presentence of young children.

The main problem here is not about the a customer breaking rules as this happens quite often everywhere, but it is about how badly Adventure Kidz handled the whole situation to the extend of having to call the police over a row about water! It shows a total lack of customer service.

As the mother of 2 young children I can appreciate that it works out expensive, and yes I have taken snacks into Kidszone for the children in the past.

However the children are only there for 2hrs, it's not a whole day out, you can easily feed them before going and after.

This place is after all a business and needs to make money in order to survive.

What more is the manager of a business supposed to do if she completely ignores the rules when asked, he'd certainly get in trouble for man handling her so calling the police is his only option.

If no one played by the rules then you would all lose somewhere to take your children as the place would go under.

I'm suprised (not overly I must admit), but suprised nonetheless about how many of you here seem to agree with this woman??

Honestly, the signs are there and even if they're not it's not uncommmon for any establishment that serves food to not tolerate food being eaten on their premises that weren't purchased from them.

I'd ask if you'd consider buying a McDonald's and eating it in Burger King an acceptable practice, but I suspect most of you probably would!

And there's no point in moaning about the price because pretty much everything involving kids is expensive. If you don't like, it don't do it. If you can't afford it, don't do it!

And if you're asked by the propriter of an establishment to respect their rules DO IT or face the consequences.

What I think is a waste of money is
Paying nearly £7.00 per child when they

amount she spent on them anyway by now.She
Could have taken as much food and drink as she
Wanted there. Also why should he give her bottle
Water when everybody else has to pay, if he gives
It to her for free everyone else will want the same. Best thing to do is don't go there simple really.

I think she knew what the rules where when she went in and didn't want to pay for the food and drink so took her own. I am sure we have all done it at places like the cinema. This man is running a business and is no different to any other childrens play place I have taken my daughter t. Where she went wrong was when she was caught she tried to bully the manager, neither would back down and the police where called, and yes, the police have better things to do than this but she would of known this but wouldn't leave when asked. If she has no money then perhaps she should take her children to a park, plenty of fresh air and excercise and you can take as much food and drink as you can carry, it never hurt me as a child.
AndyMaz, you want this place shut down? Thats very grown up wanting to see another business fail and staff job hunting.
Anyway, I have a flask and sandwiches to do so I can go and sit in Starbucks.

Is this what the police are for now? They should both have their heads banged together. She should put her toys back in the pram as most places like this have rules. By making a few quid on food/drinks etc there's no harm in that. Do you know of any business that sells for the same price they pay? Course not as everyone would be out of business. He should also have conducted himself a little better but i really hope this story doesn't ruin his business as some people seem to want happen.
