Plans unveiled for multi-million pound Rendezvous hotel complex for Margate seafront
A multi-million pound 60-bedroom hotel is to be built on Margate seafront.
The plans for the complex on the Rendezvous site next to Kent’s flagship Turner Contemporary art gallery are due to be unveiled today.
As part of the programme of regenerating the town’s historic seafront, Kent County Council appointed Guy Hollaway Architects to produce a design for a high quality hotel.
The Turner Contemporary at Margate could soon have a new neighbour
Guests at the unveiling will be shown a model and CGI footage of the plans which also include 18 serviced apartments called “retreats”.
The proposal features two floors cut into the landscape accommodating the retreats, and 25 internal car parking spaces; one floor accommodating social and ancillary spaces; and four floors of hotel bedrooms, with 15 bedrooms per floor.
There is space for 29 external car parking spaces, and landscaping.
The site is in KCC’s freehold ownership. The plans will then be put on public show at Thanet Gateway in Cecil Square.
This exhibition will continue until October 10.
Following this, the designs will be finalised, taking on board as many comments as possible, and an outline planning application submitted to the planning authority. The planning application is scheduled to be submitted in the autumn.
