Big pay-offs should not be made to people such as Rose Gibb who
are in charge over organisations which fail in their duties, the
Prime Minister said.
Gordon Brown came face-to-face with Jackie Stewart, a vociferous
critic of Maidstone Hospital, whose mother Mary Hirst died after
contracting the C-diff superbug in 2006.
Mrs Stewart and her family highlighted failures in her mother’s
care, successfully sued the trust, then asked the Prime Minister at
the KM’s Q&A session how it was possible that the former head
of the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, is allowed to
appeal the decision she will not get a £250,000 pay-off.
But as Prime Minister, Mr Brown is powerless to sway judges on
how to handle Miss Gibb’s appeal.
He was also asked about the transfer of maternity services to
Pembury Hospital. See him tackle the questions in the video
above.
