Man who sold himself on eBay

Andy PalmerA man who sold his labour on eBay after he was made redundant tackled the Prime Minister on jobs and bonuses for investment bankers.

Andy Palmer, 30, who used to work as a business development manager tried various job searches before creating an advert selling himself on the auction website.

He stood up as he asked the Prime Minister why the majority of job losses had come from the retail sector and had affected “ordinary” people, while investment bankers who squandered people’s savings had emerged unscathed from Britain’s financial crisis.

In his reply, Mr Brown said Britain by itself could not solve the banking crisis, but needed the co-operation of international authorities, due to the global nature of banking.

The Prime Minister added: “We have told banks they must do everything they can to stop people being thrown out of their homes and we are taking action to keep young people in jobs.

“We have got to introduce a new contract between banks and society but in a global age.”

Mr Brown said the government had done its bit to help banks, citing the large loans granted to Northern Rock.

Mr Palmer interjected: “I used to work for them - and they made me redundant last year.”
