Gillingham manager Mark Stimson wants his side to keep the ball better againt Carlisle

Mark Stimson

Mark Stimson will be looking to put the nightmare of Tuesday night behind him as the Gills return to Priestfield on Saturday.

Traffic chaos didn’t help the Gillingham manager’s hopes of ending his side’s away day jinx in midweek and he’ll be hoping their reliable home form sees them through against Carlisle.

The Gills have won their last three matches at Priestfield without conceding a goal.

Stimson said: "We have to regroup and go for it because we have a hard game. Carlisle are a decent side.

"They are down there among us but they have one or two good senior players who can cause us problems and we have to stop them getting the ball.

"I will analyse Tuesday’s game and see where we can improve. The main thing was retaining the ball again at key times.

"If you have the ball, don’t give it away cheaply. If you do that at this level before you know it bang, it’s in the back of the net. It’s a harsh lesson to learn."

Febian Brandy will return to the starting line-up on Saturday for Mark McCammon, while captain Barry Fuller will replace Stuart Lewis. Chris Palmer will also be pushing for a return
at left-back.
