Kent's Charlotte Edwards
said that leading England to victory in the World
Twenty20 final at Lord's was the "proudest day of her
life".
England swept New Zealand aside by
six wickets on Sunday and Edwards said: "To win this on
our home ground is very special."
England dismissed New Zealand
for just 85, with Katharine
Brunt taking 3-6
from her four overs, and
then cruised past their
target with three overs to spare thanks to an unbeaten 39 from
World Player of the Year Claire Taylor.
It means that
Edwards, 29, has led England to three major successes this
year following their triumphs against Australia in the Ashes series
and in the 50-over
World Cup.
The Hartley Invicta and
Kent captain
added: "We wanted to win this trophy to show that the 50-over success wasn't a fluke, and there were no nerves in the
dug-out. We really believed we could get those runs on a good
wicket."
