Andy Hessenthaler was as pleased as
anyone to see Gillingham reach the Wembley play-offs again at
Priestfield on Sunday night.
The former Gills player-manager (pictured
right), still celebrating Dover’s second successive promotion, to
Blue Square South, didn’t hide his continued affection for his old
club.
He said: “Getting there has brought back
memories for me and it’s now the third time we have got to
Wembley.
"I will be there cheering them on. Hopefully
they will get promoted and it will be a great day.
“It would cap a great year for me personally
because I am really enjoying myself at Dover, and it’s going very
well there. But to see the old club back at Wembley, and
getting promoted, would be absolutely tremendous.”
Hessenthaler added: “The game was
nip-and-tuck, but the penalty came at the right time. It’s amazing
how goals change games and Gillingham gained in confidence from
that, and went on to a deserved win.”
