Gillingham's Stuart Lewis aims to take chance of playing at Wembley with both hands

Stuart Lewis aims to savour every moment
of Gillingham’s Wembley adventure having only been a
spectator when former club Stevenage lifted the FA
Trophy two years ago.
Lewis (pictured below) said: “I joined too
late to be eligible for the final. I was there in my
club tracksuit, but it was a massive disappointment at the
time and hope
fully I will go one better and play this
time.
“You always dream about playing at Wembley
as a youngster. I have always wanted to go back again, and
play a massive part, and hopefully now I will get that
opportunity and will make sure I take it with both hands.”
Lewis has made the most of winning
back a regular first team spot, having got his chance as
substitute at Wycombe last month.
He said: “I haven’t looked back since then,
but it’s not just about me it’s about having a really good squad
who want to play as high as they can.
“Building a good team spirit is one of the
manager’s great fortes, and it might have taken a bit longer here,
but now we have got 18-20 players fighting for the same cause. We
are still a young side, but have got experience, and I
think the sky’s the limit for us."
Lewis believes a near full house at
Priestfield played their part on Sunday.
He said: “I think the noise helped
make it a hostile and were on the front foot after
getting the early goal. We have worked all year for this and
won’t let up now.
“Shrewsbury were probably watching us on
Sunday night, but I think they will be wary of us because we are a
different side now to the one that lost 7-0 then.
"There is a different mentality about
us now, the morale is so much better, and I just hope it will be a
great day for us at Wembley."
