Gillingham unable to increase Wembley ticket allocation

Gillingham chief executive Mark Jones

Gillingham will not be able to obtain any more tickets for the play-off final at Wembley once they sell their allocation of 38,000.

That’s the message from Gills chief executive Mark Jones as more than 30,000 tickets were sold within two days of going on sale at Priestfield.

With opponents Shrewsbury having an allocation of 21,000 tickets, hopes were high that more Gillingham fans could obtain tickets if necessary.

But Mr Jones (pictured) revealed that segregation at Wembley means there will be no further tickets if Gills sell their initial allocation.

He said: "Shrewsbury took an additional 5,000 tickets and because of the section of the stadium they took them in, it means that we cannot have more than 38,000 because of segregation and the agreements with the police.

"That will be our maximum and that includes the 3,000 Club Wembley tickets and another 400 corporate hospitality seats.

"I didn’t know what to expect. I haven’t experienced it here before but it shows the size of the club.

"We are allowing everybody to buy eight tickets per person now. Everybody can come now for the final 5,000 seats we have left."

Shrewsbury small Club what a load of Horlicks

The last bunch of fans to make such presumtious comments fell flat on their faces at Gigg Lane Right us off at your own peril. well done though for filling your end it is worth remembering however that Shrewsbury's population is only 70,000 and the population of Shropshire is only 270,000

Just browsing, thought I'd better correct something’s on here.
First S'bury took up an additional 4,000 tickets based on how many we sold to go to Wembley 2 years ago for same event. They did not go on sale to general public until Sat and are at 18,000 now. As for stopping Gillingham fans from taking these tickets up that's simply not true as they will be sold and are tickets the club is entitled too.
Shrewsbury have terrible support? Look up the average home attendances for the division, 300 plus more per game and we did not finish as high.
What does this prove, I guess Gillingham have more trophy hunting fans than Shrewsbury which tends to come with being in a bigger catchment area.
None the less fair play to you guys for selling so many tickets, should be a great atmosphere,

7-0 was a blip, we're out for revenge now

The 7-0 thrashing was a very humiliating day but we're over that now. On our day we can beat anyone so I am quietly confident that we can get a result. I thought we would struggle to sell our initial allocation bur I am happy that we will probably sell all our allocation. As for segreagation, I believe that it is all wrong the way they have done it. There are 90,000 seats in Wembley and anyone who wants to see this game should be able to. Up The Gills!

Dont blame STFC for the way Wembley allocate their ticket sales. Could you also enlighten the good people of Shropshire who this much bigger club is to spend their money on than STFC. (7-0) ring any bells or have you forgotten that humilation. Come on Salop.

Shrewsbury Town have terrible support so should never have been given those extra tickets.
They have plenty left so needn't have taken them when Gills could have sold them.

My sympathies to all those who want to go to Wembley but cant.It was the same for my club,Luton Town, when we played there in the JPT final. We took just over 40000 to Wembley and could have sold many many more. However the word segregation came to the fore due to the way they had sold tickets to the Scunthorpe fans.It meant half of Wembley was empty!Same old FA couldn't organise a,well you know the rest!

    Same problem

We at Luton Town had the same problem with tickets, we wanted more then our 38,000 but we werent allowed due to saftey reasons!!! dispite Scumthorpe only selling 12,000 tcikets for the recent JPT final, our fans who wanted tickets were not allowed so there was 35,000 empty seats we had to look at. There was no trouble and all the fans mixed outside the ground where there is no segregation, Wembley and the FL are all idiots.

A great show from the Gills fans selling so many tickets. It's just a shame the Football League messed up by allowing Shrewsbury to take up the meagre amount of tickets they sold across the stadium meaning that the Gills can't have any more tickets.

It's a poor show from the League and Shrewsbury that the Shrews will sell under 20,000 tickets but will prevent the Gills taking any more fans by spreading their allocation across half of the stadium. The League should have ensured that the Shrews 16,000 (so far) tickets were taken in one block meaning that both they and the Gills could take up further tickets, if required.

I reckon the Gills could have taken up 10,000 more tickets - 10,000 more people in Wembley and a 10,000 bigger crowd would have been in everyone's interest, including Shrewsbury as they would get just as much of a cut off those tickets as Gillingham. Their and the FA's attitude has been short-sighted.
