Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler frustrated by 1-1 draw at Morecambe

Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler claps the fans after the 1-1 draw at Morecambe

by Luke Cawdell

Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler felt his side would have easily beaten Morecambe had they been more ruthless in front of goal.

Missed opportunities meant the Gills were only able to take a point away from their League 2 clash.

Hessenthaler said: “We deserved to win the game with the opportunities we had. On another day we could have won the game four or five one.

“It’s such a frustrating game, football, sometimes and I can’t believe it. The players were down afterwards because we know we should have won the game.

“Lance Cronin’s kit was not even dirty and he only had one shot to save. He had to pick the ball out of the net from one header and they have a header over the bar.”

Gills were backed by around 200 fans and Hessenthaler praised them for their support.

“The fans were outstanding again,” he said. “It’s a long way to go and there were a lot who had made the journey.

“I was just pleased for them that we got a goal and they will have gone away really disappointed.

"If they had gone all the way back to Kent and not got anything it would have been a travesty.”

Get a life or start knitting or something other than taking the biscuit out of people of aren't listening anymore. Nuff said. UTG!!!

Hess has a tough job on his hands, what with minimal cash for players an an injury lists that reads like a horror story,so lets see after a few matches which direction the gill's are going, before people start getting the Knives out.I do hope Hess can turn it around and get that elusive away win? I've been following the Gills now for over 40yrs and no matter what fate my bring on my beloved club I will never turn my back on the Gills and the ground of the Shouting Men!

Got to feel sorry for Hess who on the field was a warrior! In contrast his players are just cowardly wimps! How many more excuses must the supporters be offered before the penny drops? Club and supporters alike need to lower their seasons expectations to a middle table position at best! A toothless side that away from home is scared of their own shadows is now being let down by a home form to match. Shocking. How the supposed mighty have fallen. As a Gills fan 0f 25 years standing I hope I am proved wrong and forced to eat my own words.
