Martin van Jaarsveld century inspires Kent Spitfires to victory over Hampshire Royals in Clydesdale Bank 40

Martin van Jaarsveld's unbeaten
hundred and another impressive bowling display by Matt Coles helped
Kent Spitfires to a 20-run victory over Hampshire Royals in the
Clydesdale Bank 40 at the Rose Bowl on Sunday.
Van Jaarsveld (pictured) hit eight fours and two sixes in his
83-ball 104 as Kent made 241-5. He added 79 with Geraint Jones
for the fourth wicket and 64 for the fifth with Darren Stevens,
before the latter was out towards the end of the innings. It was
left to Alex Blake to join van Jaarsveld as he made it through to
three figures.
Hampshire openers Jimmy Adams (74) and
Australian Phil Hughes (32) put on 85 for the first wicket and, at
115-2, the Royals looked in a good position.
However, Malinga Bandara (3-25) removed
Adams and the home side lost their way, as he and Coles with
4-9 in 18 balls bowled Kent back into contention.
Former Kent man Michael Carberry was
the last man out for 57 as Hampshire were dismissed for
221.
