Gillingham boss Mark Stimson admits his job is on the line

by Alex Hoad
Mark Stimson says he knows his job is on
the line but says he has his “fingers crossed” that he will remain
in charge of the Gills.
Boos rang around KRBS Priestfield as the
Gills’ winless run extended to nine games with Tuesday night’s
abject 1-0 defeat to fellow strugglers Tranmere.
The Gills have not now scored in front of
their home fans in almost seven hours of football since the
three-goal first-half blitz against Stockport on December 19.
Stimson said he understood the fans’
frustration in losing to a side who previously had just one away
win to their name this season and had only scored seven goals on
the road.
He said: “I can totally understand the
reaction of the fans. I thought they were brilliant, they tried to
have a go. At the end, we’ve lost at home to Tranmere who are below
us.
“They are frustrated and I accept that, they
are frustrated like myself. That was their way of showing their
frustration.”
Stimson, who said he expected to speak to
chairman Paul Scally soon, admitted: “Yes I think my job’s on
the line.
“I’m realistic. It’s a results business. There
are not many managers this season that have gone into the bottom
four and survived.
“Whatever happens will happen. I spoke to the
chairman on Saturday and Sunday. I’m sure I’ll speak to him
and fingers crossed I’m still in charge.”
