Beyond the Boundary: Kent all-rounder Darren Stevens writes exclusively for the KM Group

It is now important that we can start getting some momentum
going. We have been on a bad run and have been disappointed with
our results, particularly in t20.
We’ve not won as many games as we would have liked and should
have won at The Oval as we thought we had 30 runs too many on that
pitch.
A couple of positive results in the next week would be massive
for us, even if we can’t qualify in the t20. It is all about
momentum.
We had a good win on Sunday and if we can follow that with
another on Friday and then again on Sunday, we’ll be able to take a
lot of confidence into the four-day game against Somerset at
Taunton on Tuesday.
Winning is the key, it doesn’t matter which form of the game it
is.
We suffered a big loss in our last Championship match at
Hampshire but we were missing a few players, so to come back and
get a win at Somerset next week would be a huge boost.
I’m back with Kent after England Lions duty and the whole 10-day
experience was fantastic from start to finish.
I thought the Lions was just for talented youngsters but when I
got there they told me the Lions would now be used as a mirror of
the main squad – so it is like an England B team.
The final game of the triangular series was brilliant, I got the
chance to bat up the order a bit. When I started the series off at
seven I thought I might not get the chance to bat with such a
strong side.
At the end of the week they told me they were pleased with how
I’d gone about my business and they were happy that I had taken the
chance with both hands.
Now I’ll just wait and see. I’d be chuffed to bits to get the
opportunity to play for my country. All I can do is keep churning
out the runs for Kent.
During the 10 days I worked more on my bowling than I did on
anything else. I worked with bowling coach Kevin Shine on a few
variations, which will help me with Kent.
We're on a 10-day road-trip and hopefully there will be some
camaraderie and banter, even though we’ve had a rough spell.
Amjad Khan will be coming down and they are trying to get him
right for the four-day game which starts on Tuesday.
I hope he also gets a chance to play in one of the t20s because
it would help his fitness, just the four overs.
You want Khan in the team, even if he’s only 90 per cent
fit.
