Beyond the Boundary: Kent all-rounder Darren Stevens writes exclusively for the KM Group

Being away for a week at Cardiff and then Taunton means we
travelled by coach rather than drive. Some of the boys enjoy it but
I prefer going by car because you can do it at your own pace.
However, I understand the coach is easier on a trip like last
week’s with a long journey home.
It gives us the chance to stick together and do things as a
group. We had a couple of quiet drinks after the win against
Glamorgan and had dinner together. We’re bonding well and there are
good vibes in the dressing room.
We were on the bus coming back to the hotel after practice on
Monday and somebody shouted out ‘anyone going for dinner, meet at
seven in reception.’
I had been to see the new Leonardo DiCaprio film Inception on
Sunday, but the other boys went to see it on Monday, while Matt
Coles and Alex Blake saw Toy Story 3 in 3D!
Sometimes people want to do their own thing, it all depends
what’s happening as a team.
If things aren’t going well you can get caught up with it all
and it can be a little bit hard.
We all wanted to finish on a high in the Twenty20 and it was
pleasing to win the last three games. We gave Somerset a right
hiding on Sunday and wanted to take it into the four-day game this
week.
It’s back to the longer format now in both the championship and
Clydesdale Bank 40 competitions.
I had my first hit with a red ball in about a month this week
and I’m looking forward to getting the chance of spending more time
in the middle. I want to continue to play positively and maintain
my form.
Keysy’s not with us this week but there is some good news on
that front. He broke the little finger on his right hand against
Hampshire, has had one hit but it was still a little bit sore.
He was due to have another one sometime this week and hopefully
he could be back with us next week.
