Danny Spiller signed a short-term
deal with Gillingham on Friday and boss Andy Hessenthaler believes
it could just be the start.
Spiller, pictured, played 138
games for the Gills between 2001 and 2007 and has agreed
terms on a five-month contract.
"That shows the appetite of Danny
Spiller," said Hessenthaler.
"His work-rate and his effort was
frightening on Friday night (against Bishop's Stortford) and
I’ve never seen anything like his fitness levels.
"I think a five-month contract makes
Danny Spiller very hungry."
He added: "I will be very surprised if
Danny Spiller doesn’t end up being here for the next couple of
years if he keeps his head right, keeps working hard and keeps
putting in the performances that he has shown since he has come
back.
"As soon as I offered him that deal
there was no hesitation. He phoned the chairman up and thanked him
for giving him another chance. It’s not about money, it’s about
playing football."
