EXCLUSIVE by Matthew Panting
Welling captain Jack Parkinson has been on trial at League 2
promotion-chasers Bournemouth.
Manager Jamie Day revealed that his skipper has been training at
Dean Court ahead of last weekend's win over Weymouth in Blue Square
South.
Parkinson (pictured) has impressed at the heart of the Welling
defence this season and has attracted the interest of a number of
league clubs.
"Jack has been to Bournemouth for a week and a bit," said Day.
"I spoke to their manager and they quite like him but, like many
clubs, they have financial problems.
"They are going to monitor him until the end of the season and
then we'll see what happens.
"Leyton Orient spoke to me last week and we put his name in the
frame. Everyone is in the same boat, they quite like him but they
haven't got the money to do that much at the moment."
Parkinson is under contract at Park View Road and Day is keen to
extend his deal in the close season.
"I''ve spoken to him about next season and I've told him that I
want to keep him," added Day. "He is happy with that and in the
next couple of weeks we'll hopefully sort something out.
"He has all the atrributes to play in the Football League but I
think another year with us will benefit him as that extra
experience will do him good."
