James Tredwell will hope to get the chance to win his first Test
cap when England face Bangladesh in the Second Test in Dhaka on
Saturday.
The 28-year-old off-spinner looked nailed on to make his debut
in this week’s 181 run win in Chittagong, only for the selectors to
decide on playing four bowlers, including Middlesex debutant
Steve Finn, who replaced injured Durham paceman Graham Onions.
Tredwell, pictured, grabbed the spotlight on Sunday with a
stunning one-handed catch at short mid-wicket off rival Graeme
Swann while fielding as replacement for captain Alastair Cook.
Kent team director Paul Farbrace said: “England had to make the
decision whether to play him on the spot.
"We are all very proud of what Treddy has done, he wasn’t in any
squad at one stage, so we mustn’t get too despondent about him not
playing in a Test.
"The strides he has made have been absolutely incredible,
because he wasn’t on England’s radar at the start of the
winter.”
The Kent squad report back for pre-season fitness tests
on Friday and begin outdoor training on Monday.
Robbie Joseph, Phil Edwards and Amjad Khan were due back from
winter spells away this week, while Darren Stevens (Zimbabwe) and
Simon Cook (Hong Kong) return next week.
