Ten-man Maidstone earned a battling point at
high-flying Sutton in the Ryman League Premier Division on
Saturday.
The visitors did not create much in the first
half and Sutton had the better chances, notably when Andy Walker
(pictured) made an outstanding save in the 35th minute
from a goalmouth scramble.
Maidstone improved in the second half and four
minutes after the restart new signing Chris Saunders played a good
ball to Ant Bodle, but his shot went straight at Sutton keeper
Kevin Scriven.
Saunders was booked for a foul on 58 minutes
before getting his marching orders following another challenge two
minutes later even though he appeared to win the ball.
Stones were left to play the last half hour
with 10 men and Sutton should have scored after 67 minutes. Roland
Edge mis-hit the ball into the path of Jason Goodliffe, who only
had Walker to beat, but he rushed his shot and smacked it wide.
Substitute Lynden Rowland went close with a
shot for the Stones after 72 minutes, before Walker pulled off
another great save in the final minute to keep out a Sonny Cobbs
header.
Tonbridge and Hendon were also deadlocked in a
0-0 draw in the Ryman League Premier Division.
