A piece of football memorabilia dating more than 100 years will
go under the hammer on Friday.
The shield handed out to the first winners of the Kent League in
1894/95 is expected to fetch around £1,000 at auction.
The Kent Football Association First Division silver and oak
shield was first presented to Swanscombe.
Subsequent winners up until 1959 included Gillingham, Maidstone
United, Woolwich Arsenal Reserves, Millwall Reserves, Charlton
Athletic Reserves, Crystal Palace Reserves, London Paper Mills and
Tunbridge Wells Rangers.
The shield, which was originally found in a rubbish skip 30
years ago, is Lot 1408 and should come up for sale
about 2pm at the Eastbourne Auction Rooms.
