Ebbsfleet again showed their never-say-die attitude as they
snatched two goals in little more than a minute in the dying
seconds at Southport on Saturday to earn a 3-3 draw.
Injury-hit Fleet were trailing 3-1 in the 89th minute but Liam
Enver-Marum pulled one back with a header before Calum Willock
(pictured) grabbed the equaliser in the first minute of
stoppage-time to the delight of 39 travelling Fleet fans.
Ricky Shakes had given the visitors the lead after just 15
minutes when a long goal-kick from keeper Tom McNeil was flicked on
by Willock and Shakes latched onto it before bearing down on
Southport keeper Tony McMillan and firing home right-footed.
However the Fleet lead lasted less than a minute as Andy Owens
capitalised on some slack defending before beating McNeil.
The hosts turned the game on its head six minutes later when
more slack defending allowed James Ellison to head home.
After the break Michael West became the latest Fleet casualty
when he came off with an apparent ankle injury and Tony Gray made
it 3-1 from the penalty spot shortly before the hour after a foul
in the box by Liam Bellamy– the third time Gray has converted a
spot-kick against Fleet this season.
Willock was brought down when appearing to be clean through on
goal but Enver-Marum sent the free-kick narrowly wide and Bellamy
drove another set-piece straight at McMillan before Fleet’s
late-show snatched an unlikely point which left them looking likely
to finish 14th in Blue Square Bet Premier.
