Kent County Cricket Club bowling attack of Mark Davies, Charlie Shreck and Matt Coles showing early promise

by Glenn Pearson
Mark Davies believes Kent’s new three-pronged bowling attack
will continue to go from strength to strength.
Davies (pictured) and fellow new-ball quick bowler Charlie
Shreck have settled in well since signing during the winter and
together with firebrand quick man, Matt Coles, the trio have formed
a dynamic bowling attack in helping Kent to an unbeaten start to
the season.
Coles already has 17 scalps to his name from three LV= County
Championship games and while the 21-year-old has been earning rave
reviews for his displays with bat and ball, Davies has been quietly
going about his business.
The former Durham man bowled 44 overs in the draw against
Gloucestershire, which included 25 in the first innings where he
went on to take 4-43, offering control with the new and old ball
for skipper Rob Key.
Davies is enjoying being part of a new-look attack at Kent and
believes the trio each offer something different to the bowling
unit.
"We’ve bowled through pre-season together and Jimmy (Adams) is
quite big on us bowling as a unit," he said. "The fact we bowled as
a unit helped us against Gloucester because they never got away
from us.
"I think we are heading in the right direction, there’s still a
lot to work on but we’ll keep moving forward.
"We have got Colesy, who is young and a bit wild really, who
comes in and chucks them down as fast as he can but we complement
each other as Charlie has the swing option and I just sit in there
and bash a good area for as long as I can. It seems to be working
and long may it continue."
