Kent spinner James Tredwell recalled to England ODI side in place of Graeme Swann
Kent bowler James Tredwell has been handed a recall
to the England One-Day International side for the remainder of the
series against South Africa.
Off-spinner Graeme Swann will sit-out the final three games of
the series to rest an elbow problem which has dogged him for
months, with the ECB recalling Tredwell ahead of Friday's third ODI
at the Kia Oval.
Tredwell, 30, from New Romney, will seek to earn a place in Andy
Flower's starting line-up to add to his solitary Test appearance
and six ODI caps in England colours.
South Africa lead the series 1-0 after Hashim Amla's
swashbuckling 150 laid the foundations for an 80-run win in the
second match on Tuesday.
The opening clash was abandoned due to bad weather.
Nottinghamshire star Swann, 33, who has seen his workload in all
three forms of the game limited by the ECB in recent
months, is expected to return for the three match Twenty20
series.
Tredwell was called up for the final ODI against Australia last
month to allow Swann to rest his right elbow.
The Kent man was however omitted from the final 15-man England
party for next month's ICC World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka,
despite being named along with Swann in the initial 30-strong
squad.
Do you think Tredwell deserves to start Friday's clash
with South Africa? Have your say below.
