Margate march on at the top of the Ryman
League, Premier Division, after beating Wingate & Finchley 2-0
on Saturday.
John Beales put the Gate in front on 61 minutes and substitute
Alex Rhodes made sure of the points with a late free-kick.
Elsewhere in the division, Bradley Wood-Garness scored the only
goal as Cray Wanderers lost 1-0 at Canvey
Island.
The result of the day in Ryman League, Division 1 South came at
Salters Lane, where Faversham Town thrashed
basement boys Walton Casuals 7-0.
Renford Tenyue hit a hat-trick, while there were two goals each
for Wayne Wilson and Kieran Oliver. Incredibly, the visitors had
two goalkeepers sent-off.
Maidstone United remain hot on the heels of
leaders Dulwich Hamlet after their 1-0 win at Leatherhead. It took
Folkestone loanee Stuart King just six minutes to open his Stones
account but the visitors’ joy was tempered when goalkeeper Charlie
Mitten broke his arm and was taken to hospital.
Third-placed Hythe Town shrugged off their
midweek derby defeat to Ramsgate by beating Eastbourne Town 2-0 in
east Sussex.
Dave Cook scored both Hythe goals before half-time. Scott
Porter’s side remain level with Maidstone on 33 points although
they have played three games more.
At Bourne Park, a Ryan Golding penalty gave
Sittingbourne the lead against Worthing but they
ended up losing 2-1. Two goals in three minutes at the end of the
first-half turned the game and the defeat leaves the Brickies
fourth.
Nicky Southall’s first game in sole charge of Whitstable
Town brought a creditable 1-1 draw at high-flying Crawley
Down. Dover loanee Sean Raggett salvaged a point for the Oystermen
after Luke Blewden had put the hosts in front.
Luke Webb scored the only goal as Folkestone
Invicta extended their unbeaten run to three games with a
1-0 win at home to Tooting & Mitcham.
However, Ramsgate slumped to their third defeat
in four matches as they lost 3-0 at Chipstead.
Herne Bay lost by the same scoreline at home to
Merstham. Four straight league defeats have seen them drop to
15th.
Runaway leaders Maldon & Tiptree beat Thamesmead
Town 1-0 in Ryman League, Division 1 North. Jamie Guy
scored Maldon’s winner from the penalty spot but Mead remain in the
play-off places.
Meanwhile, first-half goals from Roddy Ndiane and Liam Hickey
fired Chatham Town to a 2-0 home win over AFC
Sudbury.
