Gillingham manager Martin Allen urges fans to not get carried away with the club's position in League 2

by Luke Cawdell
Gillingham extended their lead at the top of League 2 to
five points last weekend but boss Martin Allen insists fans should
stop looking at the table.
The Gills have headed the table since early September, boasting
a seven point advantage over the second placed team at one stage,
but it’s all irrelevant to Allen.
And he hopes fans take a leaf out of his book.
He said: “We can’t keep looking at the league table and saying
how happy we are.
“The other week we were seven points clear and everyone was
talking about it all the time, then it came down to two points and
everyone was saying ‘oh my God we’ve blown it’ and all this sort of
stuff.
“But don’t even look, don’t bother, it’s not worth it. It
doesn’t matter now. At the end of the season it matters.
“There are going to be ups and downs but we make sure the downs
don’t get too down and the ups don’t get too high. There will be
spells where you don’t win matches for a while but you need to just
keep going, keep supporting and keep helping the players.”
*Young Gills midfielder Alex Brown made his debut for Maidstone
United on Tuesday night, in their 3-1 win over Three Bridges.
He has joined Jay Saunders' team on loan for a month and came on
as a 53rd minute substitute for the Ryman League, Division 1 South
leaders.
