Dover Athletic came from behind to overcome Truro City 3-1 in
Blue Square Bet South at Crabble on Saturday to record their first
win in three league games.
Agustin Battipiedi and Jemal Johnson returned for the Whites,
who were without Glen Southam and Tom Wynter.
The Cornish side started the brightest and took the lead after
just 11 minutes after being awarded a penalty for a handball in the
Whites box as a cross came in.
Scott Walker confidently despatched the spot-kick past Mikhael
Jaimez-Ruiz but the goal sparked Dover into life and frontman Terry
Dixon caused havoc before teeing-up the equaliser on 21 minutes,
latching onto Michael Corcoran’s pass and then cutting back to
George Purcell who spun and fired past keeper Oliver Chenowith.
Jaimez-Ruiz had to be alert to stop a White Tigers break, saving
with his legs on the half-hour and at the other other end Dover
turned the game on its head 10 minutes before the break when
Johnson’s cross was handled and the attacker sent the keeper the
wrong way from 12 yards.
The Cornishmen struck the woodwork after the break through a
header from former Premier League star Barry Hayles and were on the
attack for large swathes of the second half, however the Dover
defence held firm and it was the hosts who stole the decisive goal
in stoppage-time through Billy Bricknell.
The win left Dover seven points outside the play-off places in
sixth after making it eight league games unbeaten.
