Gillingham
pair Matt Lawrence and Dennis Oli have been made available for
loan.
Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler has told both
players that they will not be offered new deals when their
contracts expire in the summer.
Hessenthaler is keen to free up funds in his
transfer budget to bring in fresh blood as he bids to
halt the club’s losing streak.
Among the players Hessenthaler has his eye on
is former Charlton defender Jonathan Fortune.
The Gills boss said: “Jonathan is going to
come in again on Monday. I have said to him we may do something but
it might mean I have to get a few boys out on loan.
“Matt Lawrence (pictured above) is
up for loan along with Dennis Oli. Their contracts are up (in the
summer) and I pretty much told them that we won’t be offering them
a new deal.
“I have been honest with them and I said, ‘the
window is up for loans and if someone comes in then we will
consider them going out on loan’.”
Fortune, 31, has been with the Gillingham for
the last two weeks on trial.
Lawrence was not included in the Gills squad
on Saturday but has made 73 appearances for the club since
joining them on a free in August 2010.
Forward Oli (right) has been
plagued by injuries since Hessenthaler took over the reigns as
manager from Mark Stimson. He has started just one league game this
season but since joining in January 2008 from Grays he has clocked
up 137 appearances and scored 12 goals.
Hessenthaler has also been keeping tabs on
well-travelled wide-man Rohan Ricketts.
Ricketts was ill at the end of last week
but Hessenthaler will consult with the player’s agent and look to
see some more of the 29-year-old.
Hessenthaler said: “He is a different type of
player to what we already have got. He’s a wide player who can go
and get at people.”
