Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler is awaiting offers for players including Matt Lawrence and Dennis Oli

Gillingham are yet to receive any interest in the players they have made available for loan.

Dennis OliSenior professionals Matt Lawrence and Dennis Oli (pictured) are both available after boss Andy Hessenthaler told them they wouldn’t be receiving new deals at the club.

Hessenthaler has also circulated the names of youngsters Callum Davies, Alex Brown and Dean Rance for loan. Fellow youngster Tom Brunt is already out on loan at Leatherhead.

The Gills manager hopes to claw back part of his transfer budget by sending some of his current squad out.

But Hessenthaler said: “We’ve had no interest, we have had no calls.

“I have been brutally honest with the players and that’s what I have always been since I have been at the club. That’s the type of person I am.

“I felt I needed to do something and I think it’s in their best interests that they are told early enough.

“They are our players, they are on the loan list, and you never know but I basically told them they won’t be getting a new deal at the end of the season so people are aware of that.

“It may give people a chance to earn a new deal somewhere else. I can’t be any fairer than that.”

Being able to move players on, however, can be tough.

“It’s not easy but that’s the world of football,” said the Gills boss.

“We will have to wait and see. They are available and if we get any calls then hopefully it’s the right deal for them. They can get some games and put themselves in the shop window.”

Hessenthaler was hoping to freshen his squad up with a couple of new additions but knows players must leave first.

He said: “As for bringing anyone in, we may do, depending on whether we can get anyone out, that’s the key, to balance the books.”

Hessenthaler now has to manage those players he has made available and so far, he said, it hasn’t been a problem.

“As long as they don’t be disruptive and cause problems I have no problems with them. To be fair we haven’t got those types of players at the football club.

“When they are not playing they are disappointed, and I expect them to be. I have told Matt and he has been terrific. He understands. He is 37 and I have made a decision.

“Dennis Oli has always been different class here. I have no problems with any players, unless they start causing me a problem, and then there will be a problem, but we haven’t got those type of characters here."

Lawrence and Oli have been poor this season.Blame Hess why not the fact that they got contracts for this season was Hessy fault. The fact that both have not done enough to get in the first 14 or so players at present is there own. Lawrence has made mistake after mistake it's not about pace all the time.king is slower than Lawrence but was always in the right place last night if he can keep his fitness and carries on reading the game like his name sake at Spurs he can still do a job for our club.Lawrence or Oli if they do get another chance at Gills or elsewhere they better use it as well as young Jack Evans and Connor Essam.Or they may well be joining the the dole queue in a few months time.

    agree sam

hess also played lawrence at right back, even after it was obvious that he just does not have the legs for it, he still persisted and put him there

hess may claim to love the gills, but his stubbornness and arrogance takes over and influences his bizarre decision making - lawrence could still play at centre back alongside someone with pace such as conner essam - i have said all season, you play either lawrence OR frampton - not both as together their lack of pace kills the defence

hess is just trying to shed the blame, and has picked the younger players out of pressure rather than desire - he is closed minded and inept and we simply will not progress under him - and this summer i for one will not be taken in by the chairman's season ticket sales drivel

Reeks of desperation. Fair enough tell the players to look for somewhere else next season, but is there a need to publicly humiliate them? I think most could have guessed both would not be staying anyway. I can't imagine them being too motivated if we have to call on them at some point in the remainder of the season.
