Midweek Ryman League round-up
Comments |

After a frantic finale which
produced five goals in the final 15 minutes, Maidstone United won 4-2 at mid-table Merstham on
Tuesday night to close the gap at the top of Ryman League Division
1 South.
Defender Graeme Andrews
(pictured) put the Stones ahead after 12 minutes but the hosts
levelled 13 minutes from time.
However Baff Addae struck two minutes
later to restore United’s lead and substitute Shaun Welford made it
two goals in little over three minutes to make it 3-1.
Merstham pulled back a second on 86
minutes but Alex Flisher calmed Maidstone nerves deep into six
minutes of added time with the winner.
The victory took the Stones back to
fourth, eight points behind leaders Bognor Regis Town, though
having played two games more than the Sussex side.
Despite not playing, it was a bad
night for Folkestone Invicta as they
slipped two places to sixth, out of the play-off places, as
Worthing also won.
Invicta do have a game in hand on
Worthing and have played two fewer than the Stones, who they trail
by two points.
Faversham
Town overcame struggling Burgess Hill Town 2-1 on Tuesday to
move up to 13th.
The result did neighbours Whitstable Town a favour as they remain behind
third-bottom Hill on goal difference but now have a game in
hand.
It was a tough night for the Kent
sides in Ryman Division 1 North as they both lost out to the
leading pair.
Thamesmead
Town suffered a 1-0 home defeat to leaders Leiston to make
it two defeats in four days.
The Suffolk side snatched the only
goal after just three minutes and despite good efforts from Theo
Fairweather-Johnson and Jack Pallen, Mead couldn’t find a
reply.
Chatham Town
lost 3-0 at second-placed Enfield Town - the Chats’ second 3-0
defeat in four days and their fifth since New Year’s Eve.
The North Londoners took a 1-0 lead
into the break after Brad Potter sliced the ball past Tim Roberts
and into his own net.
Roberts was beaten by a dipping shot
after the interval and the hosts added a third in added time,
having earlier struck the post from a controversial penalty which
had left Chatham incensed after Enfield were allowed to re-take a
free-kick rather than the Chats being awarded a throw-in.
Margate
suffered a fourth defeat in a row after going down 2-1 at
Kingstonian in the Ryman League Premier Division on Monday
night.
The recalled Tom Murphy gave Gate the
lead after a goalmouth scramble nine minutes into the second half,
but they were made to pay for missed opportunities when the Ks
levelled shortly after the hour before snatching the win six
minutes from time to leave Gate 12th.
