Sheffield Wednesday 0 Charlton Athletic 1

Johnnie Jackson’s spectacular free-kick was
enough to give Charlton all three points against fellow promotion
chasers Sheffield Wednesday in League 1 on Saturday.
The Addicks skipper struck a sweet effort into
the top corner past former Charlton keeper Nicky Weaver on 28
minutes for the game’s only goal.
Jackson’s (pictured) left-foot shot came
after a strong start from the visitors at Hillsborough, which
included an early effort from leading scorer Bradley
Wright-Phillips.
Chris O’Grady went closest for Wednesday in
the first half when he saw a shot drift wide while Reda Johnson
warmed the palms of Charlton keeper Ben Hamer, who was back in
the team after missing last week's FA Cup defeat at Fulham through
suspension.
After the break, Charlton held on for the win
despite a surge of pressure from Wednesday, including another
O’Grady effort which was skewed wide. Former Charlton defender
Miguel Angel Llera was among the second half changes along with
striker Ryan Lowe, but Gary Megson’s side could not find a way
through.
Charlton are now four points clear of
second-placed Sheffield United, who they take on at The Valley next
Saturday.
How big a win is this in Charlton's promotion push? Can
they do a double over the Sheffield sides next
weekend?
