A wondergoal from
Johnnie Jackson earned Charlton Athletic victory over Sheffield
United to go seven points clear at the top of nPower League 1.
For the second weekend in succession, the Addicks skipper
arrowed a spectacular free-kick into the top corner midway through
the first half as Chris Powell's side overcame their closest
rivals, who began the day four points adrift of them in second.
Jackson (pictured) fired in after Danny Hollands was brought
down outside the box by Neil Collins around 25 yards from goal.
Both teams were reduced to 10-men in the second-half as
Darel Russel saw a straight red for an apparent two-footed
challenge on Kevin McDonald on 77 minutes.
United substitute James Beattie had been sent-off
seconds earlier for his part in a scuffle which involved Yann
Kermorgant and Ched Evans, which ended with the Frenchman being
cautioned.
The visitors came closest to breaching the Addicks defence when
Matt Lowton's floated cross hit the crossbar in the closing
stages.
Charlton have a game in hand over the Blades.
