Ryman League round-up

Cray
Wanderers maintained their play-off place in the Ryman
League Premier Division but were held to a 1-1 draw at mid-table
Wealdstone.
Tommy Whitnell bundled in the rebound
after Jack Clark’s fierce drive was tipped onto the bar just before
the hour but Wands’ three-match winning run on the road came to an
end thanks to an equaliser from the head of Wes Parker within a
minute.
Margate
moved within three points of the play-off places after thrashing
fourth-placed Hendon 5-1.
After a goalless first half Matt
Bodkin put Gate ahead on 58 minutes and Dan Stubbs' stunning strike
doubled the advantage two minutes later.
The visitors hit back with a penalty
from Paul Booth on 63 minutes only for Richard Avery to make it 3-1
moments later. Bodkin's second on 74 minutes and Kwesi Appiah’s
34th goal of the season on 85 made it five straight league wins for
Chris Kinnear’s side.
Gate are well-placed to claim a
play-off place as they have two games in hand on the three sides
above them and three games on Lewes.
Maidstone
United suffered a 1-0 reverse against 10-man Hythe Town at Reachfields to suffer a blow in their
push for promotion from Ryman Division 1 South.
Nick Barnes (pictured) scored the
only goal of the game against his former club on the hour, seeing
an attempted cross swirl into the net with the help of the
wind.
Town played the majority of the game a
man short after skipper and leading scorer Dave Cook saw red for
his part in an altercation involving both sides on 14 minutes after
a challenge from Michael Phillips.
Eighth-placed Hythe are now just nine
points behind the Stones - who still occupy the final play-off
place but are six points behind leaders Bognor having played two
more games.
Fourth-placed Folkestone Invicta also lost ground on the top-three,
who all won, after a goalless draw at Eastbourne Town.
The hosts played the final half-hour
with 10-men after the dismissal of Kai Birchard but Invicta could
not find a way past Town stopper Kieron Thorp.
Invicta are now 10-games unbeaten but
have drawn their last three.
Whitstable
Town moved eight points clear of the drop-zone after a 1-0
win at Sittingbourne.
Debutant James Pinnock won a penalty
for the visitors three minutes before the break and Scott Heard
duly converted to seal the win.
The Brickies slipped to 17th and are
now just four points clear of the Oystermen, who saw manager Justin
Luchford sent from the dugout late-on after an altercation with a
Bourne player.
Ramsgate
overcame relegation-threatened Whyteleafe 3-2 to give their Kent
rivals a boost and stay 10th.
Ian Pulman put the Rams ahead five
minutes before the break but the hosts levelled within two minutes
through Fred Fleming.
Luke Wheatley restored the Rams’
advantage three minutes into the second half and despite Elliot
Mitchell restoring parity 20 minutes from time, Pulman’s second
within 60 seconds sealed the points.
Faversham
Town allowed a 1-0 lead to slip to a 3-1 defeat late-on at
Crawley Down.
Matt Bourne put the Lilywhites ahead
on the break 25 minutes from time but the hosts drew level two
minutes later through Tom Burton.
Miles Mitchell then turned the game on
its head on 75 minutes and Luke Blewden’s lob sealed the win in the
dying seconds as Town slipped to 14th.
In Ryman Division 1 North,
Chatham Town slipped to a 2-1 defeat at
Romford.
The hosts began brightly and scored
two goals in three minutes to take a 2-0 lead inside 12
minutes.
The Chats did pull one back with Lee
Hales converting a penalty with the last kick of the game, but they
fell to their fourth straight away league defeat and slipped to
15th in the table.
They are behind Thamesmead Town only on goal difference after Mead
went down 2-0 at struggling Waltham Forest.
Mead are now four games without a win
after conceding on 16 minutes and deep into second-half
injury-time.
