Jimmy Adams says his appointment as new head coach at Kent
is an “interesting challenge” and is looking to be at Canterbury
for the the long haul.
The former West Indian Test star, who turns 44 on Monday, has
been appointed on a two-year contract and takes up his appointment
officially on February 1.
He said: “Kent haven’t had the best of times over the last
couple of seasons, a lot has been happening on and off the pitch,
but I think it offers an interesting challenge and a great
opportunity.
“I am hoping it’s a long-term appointment. There are targets to
be met with any job of this nature, but I would like to settle
into the role and go beyond the initial phase and maybe try and
build something that lasts a very long time."
Kent chief executive Jamie Clifford said: ”Jimmy was the
absolute stand-out candidate. He is very professional and a very
impressive communicator, with an exciting track record in the
game.
"He has played a lot of Test cricket, and been around the game
in various roles.
“I am looking forward to working with him and feel he
encapsulates what we are trying to achieve, is in tune of where we
are and where we want to go to.”
Adams is flying home to the West Indies immediately to complete
visa and work permit formalities, but says he will be keeping in
touch with the county regularly.
