Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler was pleased with Paulo Gazzaniga's display as a substitute at Accrington Stanley

Goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga made his first league appearance for Gillingham at the weekend.

The 19-year-old Argentinian keeper came off the bench in the second half to replace Ross Flitney.

Gills’ regular keeper Flitney was taken off after a poor first 45 minutes in which Andy Hessenthaler’s men conceded four goals against Accrington Stanley in a 4-3 defeat.

Their opponents took the lead just 45 seconds into the match after a routine clearance from Flitney was thrown straight to an Accrington player.

"I wasn’t happy with him and we made the statement," said the Gills boss.

"I could have taken them all off after that first half. We do match reports on teams but if they don’t listen then they won’t be in the team."

Gazzaniga (pictured), who was a trainee with Valencia, has previously played for the Gills in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and the FA Cup.

Hessenthaler said: "Paulo didn’t have much to do in the second half but what he did do, he did well."

I'm not sure with playing 2 left footed centre halfs but i see your point with Kingy. He was fantastic for us before his injury and he did well at Plymouth, i hope he does return back to his best or very near to it and gets back in the team asap. Framps is solid, i do like what he brings to the team, a bit of experience, abit of leadership.

As for Flitney, lets not get on the guys case because of a couple of poor performances, everyone gets complacent from time to time and dont forget Gazza's mistake against Bournemouth in the FA Cup which led to a goal.

We do have a decent squad capable of at the very least the play offs, they just need abit of rotating to keep them all on their toes.

Not sure that Plymouth would appreciate being classed as non-league even if it is pending!!
Starting against Hereford would be the ideal way to see how Simon King stands up to a full competitive game, Play him alongside Framps and have Martin and Richards each side with Lee to give protection and win the ball just in front. Weston and Jackman each side of Payne in the middle feeding Koffour and Tomlin up front. Sorry Keds but it gives a bit more pace and ensures goalscorers are playing. Also offers a good variety with Keds Montrose Rance & Miller on the bench. Just a thought

What is with this undying belief Simon King is going to be our saviour?

This is a man who has not plaed a competetitive 90 minutes for us for 2 years now. Has had one short loan spell at non league level and no other loan interest.

Face it, the man was a Gillingham Legend and one of the best players we have had at the back, but he is not our future.

If he does come back the chances of him being half the player he used to be is a long shot.

Agreed SuperKeds. Unfortunately there are a couple of thicks in the severe minority who would follow the little man all the way through to non league due to their insane loyalty. A loss at Hereford and he should do the honorable thing.

    What statement
The only statement we want is from the club saying you (Hess) have left the club.

Pity he never used the opportunities earlier in the season. After 'promising' to ring the changes before, he only swapped one regular first team player for another. Not exactly following his threat of bringing the youth on is it?
It is clear to me that Hess has no man management quality whatsoever.
Maybe why Darren Hare brings the youth on and then they clear off. Hess is still only playing 'his mates', as he failed with the policy in his first stint. He might not be intending to do, but he is sure scared to make required changes.
If you take away a defence, even the best keeper is going to be made to look like a pranny.

i think flintney needs a rest but could still play apart in the clubs future. Gazzinga will have talent but is it to soon to become the number 1. the run we need to go on has got to be something we havent seen for a long while and having strong heads is important. im thinking a loan keeper if there are any worth having. But gazza could do it, but i dont know enough about him.
    my team would be:

    .......
    richards framo kingy
    payne

    whepdale weston/lee jackman

    tomlin

    keds kuffour

maybe if kingy is on his game i would have a young lad at the back instead of richards pos essam.
