Non-league football round-up

Maidstone celebrate their
FA Trophy win over Salisbury Picture: Martin Apps
Maidstone United produced the shock
result of the FA Trophy first round on Saturday by knocking out
Blue Square Bet South leaders Salisbury City 2-0.
Against a side two divisions above
them in the non-league pyramid, the Ryman League, Division 1 South
leaders struck twice in seven minutes late in the first half
through Nicky Humphrey and Alex Flisher in front of a gate of 1,365
at the Gallagher Stadium.
The Ryman League programme was badly
hit by the weekend's heavy rain with 13 matches postponed,
including Margate's home game against Wealdstone in the Premier
Division.
In Division 1 North, Thamesmead moved
into fifth place after a 2-1 home win over Waltham Forest thanks to
two goals in the first 20 minutes from Sean Roberts and Rob Carter.
Chatham's game at Ware was postponed.
Division 1 South was worst hit by the
weather with five of the scheduled 10 matches postponed, including
Herne Bay v Faversham, Hythe v Ramsgate and Leatherhead v
Folkestone.
Sittingbourne against Merstham did go
ahead, with the Brickies moving up to fifth place after drawing 2-2
at home. Both their goals came from Ryan Golding, taking his tally
for the season to 12.
Whitstable's worries at the other end
of the table worsened with a 3-2 defeat at Tooting & Mitcham,
where they trailed 3-0 at the break before almost pulling off a
second-half comeback through goals by Damian Abel and Stuart
Vahid.
