Chatham Town director of football Steve Binks backs team to get a result at league leaders
by Luke Cawdell
Chatham face a daunting task
as they host runaway leaders Maldon at Maidstone Road.
But director of
football Steve Binks (pictured) is backing Chatham to be the
team to end Maldon’s unbeaten start to the season in Saturday's
game.
Maldon lead Ryman League Division 1
North by 10 points and have won all but two of their league games,
triumphing 6-1 in their last outing.
However, Chatham held second-placed
Heybridge to a draw in their last match – a fortnight ago – and
Binks feels the side should be confident of success.
He said: "They are on fire at the
moment and unbeaten but over the years – and I hope I’m not putting
the mockers on it – we’ve often come good against top sides.
"I remember when Dover went through
the season beating everyone but we beat them twice. It would be
just like us to get a result.
"We’ve drawn away three times this
season to teams inside the top three and so football-wise we have
proved we are a match."
Chatham were without a game last
weekend as their fixture at Ware was postponed because of a
waterlogged pitch.
The break would have given several
players the chance to recover from knocks, including Brad Potter,
Rodrique N’Diane, Miles Cornwell and George Lowes.
