Goalkeeper Ross Flitney is released after agreeing to terminate his contract at Priestfield

Gillingham have terminated the contract of goalkeeper Ross
Flitney.
The 28-year-old former Fulham trainee has
been on loan with Eastleigh and is expected to join the Blue Square
Bet South side for the rest of the season.
Flitney (pictured) signed for the
Gills from Dover in the summer of 2011. He had previously had
league experience at Brighton and Doncaster and also had spells at
Barnet, Grays and Dover.
He played for Dover under Gills former boss
Andy Hessenthaler, and it was he who brought the keeper to
Priestfield.
The keeper started last season as first
choice but heavy defeats to Accrington and AFC Wimbledon in
January, coupled with an injury, saw him lose his place to
Argentine stopper Paulo Gazzaniga.
Flitney was unable to reclaim his spot in
goal and spent the rest of the season watching from the
sidelines.
A summer operation to alleviate a
troublesome knee injury meant he started the season playing
catch-up with his fitness.
The arrival of Stuart Nelson and Tommy
Forecast left him as third choice and at the start of January was
told his future lay elsewhere.
Flitney is the latest player to leave the
Gills, as boss Martin Allen looks to trim the wage bill.
