Cody McDonald is hoping to finish the season off with
Gillingham – no matter how well he does.
The striker, 26, hit his third goal in four appearances on
Saturday to hand the Gills maximum points at Bradford.
That form could prompt parent club Coventry to activate a recall
in McDonald’s loan deal at the end of February. But McDonald, who
is enjoying his football once again, is happy where he is.
He said: “They might want me back and if they do, they do, but I
am enjoying my football at the minute.
“Hopefully, I can stay until the end of the season, at least,
and play a big part in a promotion.”
And his brief return to the Gills has, so far, been in stark
contrast to life with the League 1 Sky Blues.
He said: “It was not nice sitting on the bench every week and
turning up to games thinking ‘am I going to be involved today?’
“It’s important to be playing every week. You are not always
going to have it your own way but when you are not, you have to try
and work hard and cement your place in the team.
“Things are coming together nicely for me now, but most
importantly, though, it’s about the team and if we can perform like
we did on Saturday until the end of the season, we will take a lot
of stopping.”
