Gillingham to adopt more cautious approach when they face Dagenham in League 2

Gillingham manager Martin Allen will head into the game with Dagenham this weekend with a more conservative approach.

Last time out on home soil the Gills went for broke, against Wycombe, and it back-fired as they looked vulnerable at the back and lost the game late on.

Allen is desperate to find the right formula at home and, after successive clean sheets in the last week on the road, he could stick with the same method.

He said: "It was 0-0 with 10 minutes to go against Wycombe and they had so many chances at our goal. We were too open and too attack-minded.

"I was disappointed in myself from that game because I should have been more defensive-minded. I should have taken that point and been happy with that.

"We made a conscious decision as coaches and players that it won’t happen again. We will be solid, difficult to break down and more difficult to beat. If we can come away from a game 0-0, with a point, then we will take it.

"I normally go for the win, I must say, but I have had to pull myself back a bit and I have kept the right balance I think. Four points from our last two away games is a good tally.

"We’ve had good clean sheets and it was a fantastic effort from all our players and all those supporters as well. The players have put in a magnificent effort over the last few days and there has been top class behaviour on and off the field."
