Tough for top teams at home admits Gillingham boss Martin Allen

by Luke Cawdell
Martin Allen highlighted the struggle even the top teams face
when playing at home, as he looks to wrestle with his side’s own
woes at Priestfield.
The Gills welcome Dagenham onSaturday and Allen will be
hoping his team can put on a show in front of their own fans.
Already this season the Gills have lost five times on home soil
and have won just one of their last seven. But they are not
unique.
Allen said: "I have a friend who is a season-ticket holder at
Chelsea and they play fantastic away from home and we are talking
about stars who play in World Cups and are top internationals. But
when they go to Stamford Bridge, they are not the same.
"They can’t hack it, they can’t deal with it and they can’t make
the openings. It is right through football and it is not just our
football club that has not been doing great.
"Every game that we play, it is tough for our players, tough for
me and tough for our supporters. There are high expectations.
"But it is right through football and it is not just our club
that hasn’t had great home form. Top level, any level, it’s what we
have to deal with."
The Gills will be without Danny Kedwell (hamstring) and Charlie
Allen (hand) for this weekend’s game.
