Premier League loanees Michael Richardson and Ryan Williams
are hoping life at Gillingham brings them much-needed
experience.
The young pair both arrived before the weekend on initial 28-day
loans. Australian-born winger Williams, 19, joined from Fulham
while midfielder Richardson arrived from Newcaslte.
Richardson was working as an electrician three years ago before
Newcastle plucked him from obscurity, where he had been playing for
non-league Walker Central.
He has yet to play for the Toon Army but did have a brief loan
spell at Leyton Orient last season. It has been his only taste of
senior football before his arrival at Priestfield.
Richardson said: “That was a good test and it was a bit
different to be playing under-21 football in games that don’t
really matter that much. Results count in the first team.
“As soon as Gillingham came in for me I said yes, straight away.
I couldn’t wait to start. The gaffer has given me lots of advice
and hopefully I can repay him by doing well.”
Williams has represented the Socceroos at under-20 level and his
two brothers, Rhys and Aryn, play for Middlesbrough and Burnley
respectively.
He is also hoping to gain valuable first-team experience.
Williams said: “It’s exciting to come to a winning team. It’s a
good sign that a team who are in good form are interested in
you.
